23 Class-" Word attack"

1. I used to look up all the words in the dictionary while I was reading English books. Is this reading habit really problematic? Why?
●Time-consumpting. they don't try to memory words.

●If we always look up all the words in the dictionary, we can't catch, or find
hidden meanig or idion and irony of the context are not in a dictionary.

●Finding meaning of words frome contexts gives more impression and long-term momory.
Because they match words with pictures or other materials.



●There are many strategies to overcome these gap. Morphology hepls to understand meaning. Affixes is good example of it.

2. What makes you learn new English words difficult? What does Nuttall say? What are your difficulty?

● Idioms/ Words with several meanings/ Sub-technical vocabulary/ Superordinates/
Transfer of meaning/ Irony/ other kinds of difficulty/ A note about synonyms and antonyms

● words have similar sounds or spelling have different meanings.
When we can's match sounds and spelling, we feeld difficulty.

● When we don't have culture background and we face words used unfrequently.
Sub-technical vocabulary is more difficult that technical vocabulary.
If pronounce words are difficult, memorizing these words are difficult.


3.Discuss three strategies to build good word attack skills.

●Structural clues (grammatical funcion / morphology)
●Inference from context
●Using a dictionary
